Dubbed “Operation Checkmate,” the five-day sweep led by Yuma Sector agents resulted in 52 total arrests of individuals unlawfully present in the U.S.. Of those detained, 36 were actively operating semi-trucks on American roads.

According to reports from FreightWaves and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the operation took place from May 11–15. The primary goal was to detect and arrest undocumented individuals operating heavy commercial vehicles.
- State-Issued Licenses: Out of the 36 truck drivers arrested, 29 possessed commercial driver’s licenses (CDLs) issued by states including California, New York, Washington, and Virginia. Three of the drivers had no license at all.
- Demographics: Thirty of the arrested individuals were citizens of India, while the remaining six were from Mexico, El Salvador, and Russia.
- Invalid Documents: Officials noted that most drivers possessed Employment Authorization Documents (EADs) that were no longer legally valid. All 36 drivers face deportation.
Acting Chief Patrol Agent Dustin W. Caudle emphasized that agents are actively patrolling to safeguard roads from unlawfully present drivers and prevent severe highway accidents.
