Four companies are cutting almost 250 jobs at logistics and distribution facilities in New Jersey, North Carolina, Illinois and California — while nine trucking, freight and logistics-related businesses have filed for bankruptcy protection in recent weeks. The wave of closures and filings points to persistent financial strain across trucking, warehousing, freight forwarding and trailer manufacturing.
Layoffs Hit Four Facilities
The biggest cut comes from Fusion Transport LLC, a New Jersey freight, warehousing and e-commerce fulfillment provider, which is laying off 79 workers at its Piscataway facility effective October 1. It’s not yet clear if the facility will close for good.
Other facilities affected:
- Frito-Lay — closing its Raleigh, NC warehouse September 6, cutting 68 jobs
- D&H Distributing Co. — shutting a Bolingbrook, IL logistics warehouse, cutting all 68 employees
- DHL Supply Chain — eliminating 33 positions at a Fullerton, CA facility by September 3
That’s 248 jobs gone across four companies.
Bankruptcies Span the Freight Economy
Nine companies tied to freight and logistics have recently sought bankruptcy protection:
- Talon Logistics Inc. (Woodland Hills, CA) — Chapter 11; drayage/intermodal carrier with 40–50 power units, including zero-emission trucks
- Jackson and Son Hauling LLC (Ruther Glen, VA) — Chapter 7; small carrier with two trucks and two drivers
- Victory Freight Corp. (San Bernardino, CA) — Chapter 7; cited a multimillion-dollar legal claim
- IPS Express Logistics Inc. (San Leandro, CA) — Chapter 7
- Los Dorados Cargo Inc. (Elmhurst, NY) — Chapter 11; Latin America-focused freight forwarder and courier
- Fuel Group Trading LLC (Round Rock, TX) — Chapter 11; fuel wholesaler operating in Texas and Puerto Rico
- Freedom Trailers LLC (Tifton, GA) — Chapter 11; cargo trailer manufacturer, previously hit by an internal theft incident

The Bigger Picture
From owner-operators with a couple of trucks to regional intermodal fleets and national logistics providers, the distress is hitting every corner of freight — a sign that cost pressure and thin margins are still squeezing the industry hard.
